A Monday Vlog: My Everyday Make-Up Routine

MondaySpring

Good Morning Folks!

We’ve been hiding out for a few weeks – mostly because we have been crazy swamped! Craig has been in Texas practically the entire month of March and work has been busy. I pulled two nine hour days in the office last week – and that doesn’t include the two hours of travel time on either end. Craig has only been ‘home’ for one weekend this month, so the only time we have seen each other is as I am leaving the house at 6am, and when I finally make it back home around 7pm…until I fall fast asleep by about 9pm.

That does not an easy relationship make. To say the least, it’s been a tough month.

So to lighten things up, and because I had some free time on Saturday morning, I decided to make a much-awaited VLOG. 🙂 A lot of people – some via social media but most in person  – ask about the make-up I wear. I am no professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I do have a *little bit* of practice and have tried and tested every brand and product under the sun.

So…without further ado, I have included my vlog below. **If you are reading this post via e-mail, you can watch the video, by clicking or tapping (via tablet/iPad) the image below. For those of you who are menfolk, I included a background soundtrack of some of my favorite Christian worship songs…So there’s something for everyone!**

Eeeek! I am still freaking out just a little bit over the fact I just unleashed by ‘no make-up selfie’ to the world. Yikes!!

Any questions, comments, something I left out? Feel free to comment below or send me a message!

And stay tuned for later this week…I have a feeling my precious Texan husband might decide to post… 😉

xoxo,

A No-Cheat Coffee Treat!

Monday

Almost daily I have the same phenomenon occurring – People ask me quite frequently how I manage to stay on the wacky diet I have…all the time. Well, there are several reasons:

  1. I don’t have much of a choice, medically speaking. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome & Insulin Resistance pretty much dictate eating zero sugar (and hence, no carbohydrates) if I want to be healthy, not continually gain weight, and have the possibility of having a child with my husband one day.
  2. Learning to cook healthy, carb-free meals at home that your whole family can enjoy makes for an easier lifestyle – There is no ‘I have to eat this…So I’ll order you a pizza.’
  3. Once or twice a week, I allow myself a ‘mini-cheat’…Don’t get too excited! 🙂 Occasionally, I add quinoa or farro into a dish I am preparing for Craig and I to provide a little bit of healthy fiber and whole grain. After being without rice, potatoes, and bread for so long, this actually feels like a treat!!
  4. I create my own versions of things I love but can no longer have – like fancy coffeehouse drinks!

Recently, Craig and I were looking at a home with a realtor and she mentioned that the last time she had met with the homeowner, they had had coffee together and the realtor couldn’t believe how delicious the coffee she made was. Well, I happened to notice the kitchen island housed the coffee maker and the coffee she used and took that into account for my own experiment..

The homeowner used regular coffee and blended that with a flavored coffee mix like this one, and then added coffee creamer to complete what I am sure was a delicious deviation from a regular cup of coffee at home. So I thought about it and then decided to create my own sugar free version:

wp-1456159840419.jpg

Using about a teaspoon and a half of the Eight O’Clock Instant Coffee, mixed with about two tablespoons of the Hills Bros. Sugar-Free Cappuccino Mix, I add in boiling water and a splash of heavy whipping cream…Oh my goodness! What a treat!!! I have also used the french vanilla cappuccino and love that version, as well.

This little drink has helped ‘fill-in-the-gap’ for me on those days when I just need a Starbuck’s latte – – – aka most days. 🙂 As a side note, if you want a little bit of decadence and are planning a Starbuck’s trip, you can certainly order a breve latte with any sugar-free syrup. Breve just means they make the latte with cream rather than milk – which is much more carb/sugar friendly!!

You can check out more of our healthy and delicious recipes here or by searching ‘recipe’ in the search box on the top right of our homepage.

Have a wonderful day! We’ll be back tomorrow for another chat 😉

My Choice Monday: Valentine’s Day Gifting

Monday

Happy Monday!

And what a Monday it has been…! In the spirit of having not gotten anything (work-wise) done today — thanks, in part, to a two and a half hour meeting!!! — I did accomplish one thing.

A very important thing, I might add!

I found and ordered my husband’s Valentine’s Day gift.

That’s right – It’s already February, ladies and gents! No matter how trite you may (or may not) think this holiday is, I will take any opportunity to show Craig how much I love him!

But it isn’t always easy. Men, in general, are not easy to buy for – and my husband is no exception! I’ve done a lot of DIY things for him in our relationship, and this year, I wanted to gift him with something both practical and special.

Trying to find the perfect gift took quite a bit of research, but I wanted to share with you some sites that might make your search for the perfect Valentine’s gift (for your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, or secret admirer) a little bit simpler:

  1. UnCommon Goods : If you’ve never visited this website or flipped through this catalog, you are in for a treat!! There is always something from this store I want or could give to Craig! Think: whimsical & unique.

23490_1_360px

2. Man Crates : For the hard to buy for man in your life, you can definitely find a gift for him here – beer, tools, grilling, sports…They have it all.

ktpr-0001-1br

3. two chicks & company – Ever heard of the ‘Happy Everything’ plate?? It’s too cute and such a great decorating idea!!! If the special lady in your life loves to decorate for every season but is also crazy busy, this is the gift spot for her! Check it out!!

coton252520colors-hapev-16__23553-1454072816-1280-1280

Hopefully, one of these stores has just what you’re looking for… If you’re looking for a Christian gift, Christian Bookstore is certainly my go-to!

If you use any of these ideas to find your special someone a Valentine, let us know! We would love to know how it went!

Have a great evening!!

When you’re alone in the car, don’t turn on the depressing/maddening/outrageous news or listen to the songs on the radio (not only played over and over and over again) full of lyrics of innuendo, cursing, violence…Listen to the Word of God or worship Him in song or pray…All of these apps help to ‘keep your mind on the things above’, just where it should be!

Have a wonderful evening! God Bless You All!

My Choice Monday: Naturally Amazing Skin

MondayHello & Happy Monday!

I was so sad to see this past weekend end! Craig and I finally had a nice weekend together and we cherished every single moment – relaxing. It’s been awhile! 😉

I spoke with one of my best girls this weekend, who asked if there were any essential oils that would help with skincare… Well, yes ma’am, there sure are!

Whether you have dry skin or acne/problem prone skin, there is an essential oil remedy for you! Here are two I love:

  1. Acne Prone Skincare

3587

Let’s begin with tea tree oil. WebMD says, “The chemicals in tea tree oil may kill bacteria and fungus, and reduce allergic skin reactions.”

I, personally, use the following skincare regimen daily to tame my skin:

12 drops Tea Tree Oil

2 oz Pure Jojoba Oil

2 oz Isopropyl Alcohol

I mix these into a spray bottle and apply to my ‘problem areas’ everytime I wash my face.

Clear skin formula

Seriously, this works SO WELL for me – when nothing else has! I wash my face – using one of my favorite Christmas gifts, my Clarisonic (Thanks, Mama!) – and then spray this mixture on my clean skin – twice daily. Cystic acne caused by PCOS – gone.

2. Dry Skin/Psoriasis

3548

Frankincense. You may be familiar with this essential oil – It was one of the gifts brought by the Magi to Jesus. This oil is known to actually repair cells, so it’s perfect for treating dry skin and specifically psoriasis.

Here’s my remedy:

10 drops Frankincense essential oil

10 drops Lavender essential oil

2 oz Pure Jojoba Oil

3 oz of your favorite unscented, moisturizing facial lotion:(I recommend this.)

Mix this lotion mixture into a clean small jar (like this one), and you can apply up to 3 times daily to affected areas.

moisturized skin

And y’all, I am serious when I say that healing your skin naturally is the way to go. Hands down. And these oils, have tons more uses than simply skin care, too!

All found at Mercola:

Tea Tree Oil :

  • Toothbrush cleaner – A drop of tea tree oil can disinfect your toothbrush, which is a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.
  • Mold treatment – Mix a drop with a cup of water, spray on moldy areas, and then wipe clean.  For an all-natural disinfectant, you can also sprinkle a few drops of tea tree oil along with baking soda on your bathroom or kitchen surfaces.
  • Natural pest control – The strong smell of tea tree oil naturally repels ants and other insects. I recommend making a natural insect repellent by mixing a few drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil.
  • Laundry freshener – Adding a few drops of this oil during the wash cycle will make your laundry smell crisper and kill organisms lurking in your washer.

Frankincense:

“It’s known for its comforting properties, and is useful for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection, and helping overcome stress and despair.8

In aromatherapy, frankincense oil is either inhaled or diffused via a vaporizer – a very effective sedative that induces a feeling of mental peace, relaxation, and satisfaction, and helps relieve anxiety, anger, and stress.9 ”

Lavender:

  • Added to your bath or shower to relieve aching muscles and stress.
  • Inhaled or vaporized. You can use an oil burner or add a few drops to a bowl of hot water, and then breathe in the steam.
  • Used as a compress by soaking a towel in a bowl of water infused with a few drops of lavender oil. Apply this to sprains or muscle injuries.

And it’s easy, you can purchase any or all of these powerful essential oils right here. And if you’re interested in trying some of my recommendations from both this week and last week’s post, you might just want to purchase a Premium Starter Kit. You’ll get all of these oils:

    • Lavender 5-ml
    • Peppermint 5-ml
    • Lemon 5-ml
    • Copaiba 5-ml
    • Frankincense 5-ml
    • Thieves® 5-ml
    • Purification® 5-ml
    • R.C.™ 5-ml
    • DiGize™ 5-ml
    • PanAway® 5-ml
    • Stress Away™ 5-ml

Plus a diffuser, and MORE. You can find it here. You don’t have to care a thing in the world about selling essential oils, but if you plan to use even just two different oils, buying the starter kit is the best deal – by far. Not to mention that if you sign up, you’ll receive wholesale pricing…That’s a 24% savings right off the bat.

Check it out – I promise you’ll be glad you did – and so will your skin! 😉

Until Tomorrow,

My Choice Monday: Cleaning the Natural Way

Monday

Happy New Year Folks!!!

Can you believe it’s already 2016!?!?! It’s crazy how quickly time flies…It seems like the idea for this blog was just born…back in 2012…Goodness gracious!

Today, and this year in general, we are going to get this thing started right! Our UPS delivery man asked this morning if I had any resolutions for this year, and as a matter of fact I do – I’ll be blogging everyday, Monday thru Friday. Whether you like it or not…But we hope you’ll like it!

2016 is here and some big and exciting things are in store – We can’t wait to share all of those with you!

But first, let’s delve into ‘My Choice’ for this beautiful first Monday of the new year: cleaning with essential oils and less chemicals!

So, to start, let me share with you all that I always sort of rolled my eyes at all things homeopathic and natural…until Craig and I began dealing with infertility…and discovered that the abundance of chemicals and hormones we ingest on a daily basis, just from life in general, may have played a part in my PCOS. One of the first things we did to combat this was to STOP eating anything with added hormones. We have followed that choice, slowly, with others like taking herbal supplements and using essential oils for healing. For example, I use Thyme oil, daily, to help balance my progesterone levels…and the last time I had my bloodwork done by my endocrinologist, we were overjoyed to discover that all of my levels, save one, have become normal. My doctor even went as far as to say it appeared that things had reversed themselves…ALL DUE TO THESE SIMPLE CHANGES!!!

Well, when we heard that, not only were Craig and I elated, we decided to ‘clean up’ even more of our lives. I began selling essential oils by Young Living and I have begun the process of purging all harmful chemicals from our home – right down to the cleaning products we use everyday. Yep. I have made laundry detergent, ‘dryer sheets’, and a bathroom cleaner for starters – and there’s a lot more on the horizon!

Today, I wanted to share the latest creation with y’all:

BlissfulLiving.CleanPotty

…And that’s it…I took a sponge and scrubbed our bathroom floor! I didn’t have to worry about the furs wandering in and licking up chemicals. I didn’t have to hold my breath to avoid choking on the harsh bleach and/or ammonia aroma. And y’all – it worked!!! Not only are my floors clean, but they smell clean…and they still did when I woke up this morning!

If you’re interested in finding out more ways we are making the switch to ‘Blissful Living‘, stay tuned because we will be sharing every Monday! If you’d like to purchase any essential oils for yourself, you can do so right here or you can join my team and buy your oils at the wholesale price! In any event, make sure to follow our Instagram account and ‘like’ our Facebook page.

Until Tomorrow,

Jonah Day 2015: A Day of Thanks

If you’ve been visiting our blog for long, you know November 29th is Jonah Day. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, see this post to catch up. 🙂

Every year on November 29th, Craig and I count our many blessings and thank God for our precious baby, Jonah, who will be joining us one day! This year, not having been able to spend Thanksgiving together, we whipped up quite the feast to celebrate Jonah!

Today, since I’m sure we are all still in a turkey/leftovers coma, I’m going to spare you a full-on blog post and just share some pictures of the food we prepared. If you want any of the recipes, click on the photo to be re-directed to a close facsimile. 🙂

The Most Awesome Anxiety Attack

Monday

Have you ever had an anxiety attack?

I know it can be a different experience from person to person, but for me, anxiety feels like my heart is about to beat out of my chest. My thoughts become so singularly-focused, I can hardly concentrate on anything else, and I feel jittery – like I’ve had 2 energy drinks and 3 cups of coffee.

But it doesn’t take a frightening situation or a nerve-wracking possibility to create this sensation for me.

This is how I feel when God has charged me with a mission – something to complete and take hold of. I don’t feel like I can possibly sit still or accomplish anything until I address what God has placed in front of me.

And why do I feel this relates to an anxiety attack?

Well, I can’t think of another human experience that is as overwhelming…When God tasks me with a plan…or even just a hint of what He has in store, I can’t contain myself! From reading God’s Word and my relationship with Him, I know a sliver of just how BIG and MIGHTY and ALL POWERFUL He is! With Him, the possibilities are simply endless, and how overwhelming that is for us as mere humans.

But this anxiety is an exciting one of possibility, adventure, thrill. Serving Jesus Christ and His Kingdom is an awesome challenge and responsibility, but nevertheless, I have never felt more comforted than when I knew He was solely in control and our steps were completely dependent on His Word.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of [the nations in the Promised Land]; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparable great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

We are all called by God to do His work. He may call you to travel many miles on His behalf, or simply to stay right where you are, but you are called.

And this should excite you beyond measure.

If you are ‘stuck’ in your church service week after week, hearing the same story about walking in the power of Christ, and never doing anything about it, then you aren’t living your life to the fullest potential. And that is the saddest result of a Christian life I can think of.

When you reach Heaven, at the end of the days God has numbered for you on this earth, and He asks you how you spent your time, are you satisfied to tell him:

“ Oh, Lord, I went to church when I could…”

“I know you wanted me to feed the poor, but I was just too tired when I got home from work…”

“Precious Jesus, I was in church every Sunday! I sang songs about Your glory each week, at the top of my lungs! I listened to every sermon about Your incredible power!!”

But Jesus responds that that is not enough. We are saved by faith, of course, but faith without works is dead. If you are truly a follower of Jesus, you long to follow Him – anywhere and everywhere He leads.

Matthew 28:19

Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit…”

Acts 22:15

“For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard.”

Ephesians 6:20

“…for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

1 Timothy 4:12

“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.”

Is it scary? YES.

Is it completely against everything this world teaches? YES.

But it is at once the most incredible decision to follow Him at all costs. When you decide to stop being an armchair Christian, Jesus will use you in incredible and amazing ways.

Are you ready for your ‘anxiety attack’?
